Halloween Oreo Cookies

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Make this Halloween extra special with Halloween Oreo Cookies. With only 3 INGREDIENTS, this no-bake recipe is cute, delicious, and easy to whip up!

Oreos that have been dipped in chocolate and decorated for Halloween laying on a white surface.

These chocolate-dipped Oreos, decorated with spooky Halloween sprinkles, candy eyes, or even a black cat sprinkle, make the perfect gift, treat, or party favor for Halloween parties. Classic Oreo Cookies, with their black and white color scheme, are the perfect Halloween cookies. Plus, they're a simple, no-bake option that will bring out the smiles!

Another no-bake, fun treat I love to make during this spooky season is Halloween Puppy Chow. My Buttercream Halloween Cupcakes also make a great addition to a festive party menu. They are decorated with Black Frosting that is free from food dyes and artificial flavors.

They're so easy even the kids can get involved. My girls love to help out with this recipe and have so much fun adding sprinkles and chocolate drizzle to make their own spooky creations.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • ONLY 3 Super Simple Ingredients. Just regular or double stuff Oreos, white and dark chocolate melts, and some Halloween sprinkles—no need for complex ingredients!
  • Fun for Halloween Parties. These dipped Oreos look amazing on any Halloween party spread and make a great option for party favors. But don't be surprised if your family asks for them after Halloween ends. These little treats are really that good and are perfect anytime with a tall glass of milk.
  • Customizable. From the chocolate type to the toppings, you can tailor these Oreos to fit your Halloween vibe perfectly. There are some great limited edition flavors, like red velvet and pumpkin, that would work well for a Halloween theme.

Substitutions

  • Chocolate. Use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate candy melts.
  • Almond Bark. You can use vanilla or chocolate almond bark or candy coating instead of melting wafers.
  • Chocolate Chips. Although the chocolate wafers are my preferred ingredient, If you don't have melting wafers, you can use chocolate chips instead. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or a bit of canola oil for every 1 cup of chocolate chips. It helps make the melted chocolate smoother.
  • Sprinkles and Toppings: Try candy eyes, cute Halloween shapes, or crushed cookie crumbs to add texture and flavor.

Variations

  • Double Chocolate. Dip in both dark and white chocolate for a spooky two-toned look.
  • Candy Melts.  After you have dipped the Oreo in the first layer of chocolate and let it set, you can melt candy coating and drizzle it over the Oreos for a pop of color. You can find the candy melts at your local craft or grocery store. Follow the melting instructions on the package.
  • Red Velvet or Pumpkin Oreos: Try limited edition flavors for a fun twist on the classic flavor.
  • Black Cat Theme: Top with black sprinkles and candy eyes for a spooky black cat effect.

Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make the Halloween Oreos include Oreos, chocolate melting wafers and Halloween sprinkles.

How To Make Halloween Oreos

Step 1. Prepare Your Area: Line a baking sheet with wax paper.

Step 2. Melt Chocolate: Place the white and dark chocolate wafers in separate bowls and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

Step 3. Dip the Oreos: Using a fork, dip each Oreo into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off before placing it on the wax paper. Alternatively, you can just dip half of the Oreo in the melted chocolate before transferring it to the wax paper.

Decorate: Add sprinkles, candy eyes, or any other Halloween decorations immediately after dipping. Don't wait too long or the chocolate will harden before you can decorate. However, if this happens, you can add a little chocolate drizzle and add sprinkles or decorate before it hardens.

Set: Allow the chocolate to harden. It only takes a few minutes.

Storage and Freezing Instructions

  • Store: Place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • Freeze: Freeze in a dry place in an airtight container for up to 3 months for freshness. Thaw before serving.

Natalie’s Pro Tip

These make a super cute party favor.  Since regular Oreos don't include any nuts, they're safe for kiddos with peanut or other allergies. Additionally, now they make Oreos that are gluten-free. So you can make these fun Halloween treats for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, they make a great little specialty gift for neighbors and teachers.
