This original Fantasy Fudge recipe is a classic recipe that has truly stood the test of time. I make this fudge every year because it truly is a no-fail fudge recipe.
If you grew up making marshmallow creme fudge during the holiday season, there’s a good chance this vintage recipe came straight from the back of the Kraft marshmallow fluff jar.

With its rich chocolate flavor, smooth texture, and nostalgic appeal, it’s no surprise this is still considered one of the best fudge recipes today.
Why This Is The Perfect Fudge Recipe
- Quick and Simple - This delicious chocolate marshmallow fudge is made with just 6 ingredients that deliver consistent, dependable results. In just about 15 minutes, plus an hour of cooling time, it's ready to cut and enjoy.
- Smooth Texture, No Guesswork - Marshmallow cream creates creamy chocolate fudge without complicated steps or techniques.
- Perfect for Holidays and Gifting - This fudge is ideal for Christmas baking, holiday gifts, and special occasions throughout the year. This recipe makes plenty, slices cleanly, and is perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Natalie's Pro Tips
- It can also be made in a 9”x13” pan for thinner fudge pieces. Instructions are the same.
- If the sugar mixture is cooked too long, it will be grainy-looking and crumble when you cut it. As soon as I see the little bubbles forming around the edge of the saucepan, not a full rolling boil, I start the 5-minute timer.
- No candy thermometer is needed. However, the ORIGINAL published recipe stated to cook the mixture until the temperature to 234℉. Comments on the Kraft recipe said they cooked the mixture for 4 to 5 minutes, but these readers used a candy thermometer to monitor it.
- When the fudge is ready to cut, I remove it from the pan by lifting the parchment paper. Then, using a very large kitchen knife and holding it parallel to the fudge surface, I press straight down to create clean cuts. I usually cut the fudge into 1-inch pieces.

How To Make Perfect Fantasy Fudge
Step 1. Line a 9”x9” square pan with parchment paper.
Step 2. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat sugar, butter, and evaporated milk over medium heat until boiling, stirring the entire time. Continue boiling for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Step 3. Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and marshmallow fluff. Stir until completely combined. Fold in vanilla extract and walnuts, if using.

Step 4. Pour into prepared pan. Allow to cool for at least 1 hour and cut into small pieces.

Yes. This recipe works well with or without nuts. You can see the recommended amount for including walnuts in the recipe card.
If the fudge is crumbling and dry, it probably got cooked too long. For best results, start your five-minute timer as soon as you see small bubbles forming along the edge of your saucepan. You can also monitor the fudge's temperature with a digital thermometer.

This fantasy fudge looks like the perfect fudge texture! I'm excited to include these in my holiday treat boxes this year. I love your tip about setting the timer once the bubbles start to appear on the edges, I often avoid candy recipes because of the temperature guesswork involved. Your tip makes it so much easier! Thanks for another great tested recipe!
